City of Portsmouth issued the following announcement on Jan. 27
In the years surrounding Jackie Robinson’s well-known crossing of Major League Baseball’s “color line” in 1947, players like Joseph “Mickey” Brown, Charles Peete, and Brooks Lawrence were cementing their reputations in Portsmouth’s Black baseball scene.
