The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced the immediate closure of the crossover at the Woods Cross Roads intersection. This decision follows three accidents that occurred on Wednesday. Fortunately, none of these incidents resulted in life-threatening injuries.

“Please be advised that, after 3 accidents (Wednesday) it has become necessary to close the crossover on 17 at Woods Crossroads for the remainder of the construction period,” VDOT said. The closure is set to be enforced by 8 a.m. on June 5 with the installation of traffic control devices.

Traffic will now be redirected to use existing north and south Route 17 crossovers for U-turns. Entry into the closed crossover will not be permitted. Initially, plans were to close this crossover in July, but due to safety concerns for both travelers and construction personnel, VDOT decided to advance the closure date.
