Tidal flooding forces road closures and checkpoint in Poquoson

Several roads in Poquoson are currently closed due to tidal flooding, making them impassable to traffic. The affected streets include portions of Cary’s Chapel, Church Street, Poquoson Avenue, Brown’s Neck, Beach, Bay, and River Roads.

A checkpoint has been set up at Fire Station 1 on Poquoson Avenue, where through traffic is not being permitted. In addition, the Wythe Creek bridge at Cary’s Chapel is now closed to traffic.

Authorities are urging drivers to avoid flooded areas. “TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN!!! Several streets are impassible due to tidal flooding. Streets include, but may not be limited to, portions of Cary’s Chapel, Church Street, Poquoson Avenue, Brown’s Neck, Beach, Bay, and River Roads,” the city stated. “A checkpoint has been established at Fire Station 1 on Poquoson Ave, so no through traffic will be allowed. The Wythe Creek bridge at Cary’s Chapel is also now closed to traffic.”

Residents are advised to seek alternate routes and stay updated on local advisories.
