At approximately 8:39 p.m. on September 6, 2025, James City County Police and Fire responded to a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Humelsine Parkway East and Quarter Path Road. When emergency crews arrived, they found one vehicle engulfed in flames. All occupants had exited the vehicles before responders arrived.

Four people were taken to Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News for medical treatment. Two individuals were reported in critical condition, while two others were listed as stable.

According to initial findings from the Department’s Traffic Unit, the incident began when the driver of a 2001 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Humelsine Parkway and attempted a left turn onto Quarter Path Road. The Honda Accord driver reportedly went through a red light and entered the path of a westbound 2025 Kia K5. The Kia struck the Honda Accord, causing it to spin into a 2018 Honda Civic. Following the crash, the Kia caught fire but was extinguished by James City County Fire Department personnel.

The westbound lanes of Humelsine Parkway at Quarter Path Road remained closed for about three hours while authorities managed the scene.

The driver of the Honda Accord has been charged with Failing to Obey a Traffic Signal.
