Thanksgiving closures impact City of Hampton services and facilities

City of Hampton officials have announced adjustments to city services and facility schedules in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

City offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27, for Thanksgiving and Friday, Nov. 28, for an administrative day.

Trash and recycling collections scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 27, will take place a day earlier on Wednesday, Nov. 26. There will be no collections on Friday, Nov. 28; those pickups are rescheduled for Monday, Dec. 1. Additionally, collections originally set for Monday, Dec. 1 will occur on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Street sweeping planned for Thursday, Nov. 27 has been moved up to Friday, Nov. 21.

The Yard Waste Site and landfill will both be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27-28.

City schools are scheduled to close from Wednesday through Friday (Nov. 26-28). Libraries and community centers will also be closed during this period.

Other affected facilities include the Fort Monroe Pool; Treasurer’s Office; Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office; DMV Select; Human Services offices; Peninsula Health District clinics (which close at 1 p.m., Wednesday); Bluebird Gap Farm; Sandy Bottom Nature Center; Hampton History Museum; and Hampton Carousel—all closed Thursday and Friday unless otherwise noted.

The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center remains closed until a new exhibit opens Saturday, Nov. 29.

Some city amenities remain open or have adjusted hours: City parks stay open throughout the holiday period while The Hamptons and The Woodlands golf courses operate until 1 p.m., Thursday before returning to regular hours Friday.

James T. Wilson Fishing Pier is open until 6 p.m., Wednesday but closes all day Thursday before reopening at 8 a.m., Friday.

Hampton Roads Transit buses will run on a Sunday schedule Thanksgiving Day (Thursday) and switch to a Saturday schedule the following day (Friday). More information about transit schedules can be found at https://gohrt.com/.
