The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to Coastal Design and Construction, Inc. for the transportation of shells from the Craney Island dredge material management area to Lesner Wharf in Virginia Beach. The project is set to commence in early December 2024.

The transport will involve standard dump trucks following an established hauling plan. It is projected that the hauling will take place over approximately 17-22 days between December 2024 and March 2025. The operations will be conducted intermittently on weekdays, with working hours scheduled from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

All vehicles involved in this project are required to comply with posted speed limits and traffic controls during their operations.

"The Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area is a 2,500-acre confined dredged material disposal site."
