The Christopher Newport track & field teams were led by several historic efforts in distance events as the Captains wrapped up the Swarthmore Final Qualifier on Monday Evening at Widener University's Leslie C. Quirk Jr. Stadium.
Leading the way, Daniel Ferrante posted the school's second-fastest time in the men's 1500 after crossing the line in 3:49.28. That clocking also moved him to third in the South Region this year.
Meanwhile, on the women's side, Kaitlyn Ardrey and Madi Rawlings climbed up Christopher Newport's all-time charts in a pair of distance events. Ardrey completed the 3000-steeplechase in 11:37.72, which marked the seventh-fastest time by a Captain. Later, Rawlings concluded the 5000 in 18:21.16. That moved her to ninth on the program leaderboard.
Among other top finishers for Christopher Newport, John Vogel came in third in the men's steeplechase after completing the gauntlet in 9:17.62. Meanwhile, Perry Spring was seventh in the 400 (54.47), and Clark Edwards came in 15th in the 800 (1:56.14). Diego Cobos also paced the squad in the 5000 with a time of 15:43.72.
Rounding out Christopher Newport's leaders on Monday, Logan Funk threw down a team-best time in the women's 1500 after finishing in 4:48.51.
The Captains will return to action on Wednesday when the squad travels to Massachusetts for the Williams Final Qualifier in Williamstown.
