Christopher Newport University Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 7
Christopher Newport University moved up two spots in the newly-released national Top 25 poll from D3hoops.com. The Captains, 13-2, are ranked tenth in the country this week after being in the 12th spot in the last poll released in mid December. CNU made the jump thanks to its current ten-game winning streak.
John Krikorian's squad is coming off a dominant 85-47 victory Sunday over Widener University at the Freeman Center. Not only was it the tenth straight triumph for the Captains, it also improved CNU's record at home this season to 10-0. The Captains haven't been defeated since a November 21st loss at Lynchburg. Christopher Newport has defeated two teams in the Top 25 ranking this year. CNU has handed top-ranked Randolph-Macon (10-1) and 12th-ranked Johns Hopkins (7-1) their only losses so far this season. This is the highest ranking for the Captains since the pre-season poll heading into the 2019-20 campaign when CNU was in the ninth spot.
The Captains scheduled game Wednesday night at Marymount University has been canceled due to CoVID concerns. CNU is scheduled to travel to Pennsylvania this weekend for a Saturday afternoon game at York College.
