Hampton University junior Rochele Solmon was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Field Athlete of the Week on March 31, following her performance at the East Carolina University Bill Carson Invitational.

Solmon, who is from Clarendon, Jamaica, won both the discus and shot put events during the meet. She achieved a throw of 47.80 meters in the discus and 14.56 meters in the shot put. These results placed her first in the CAA for discus by a margin of 21 inches and second in shot put within the conference.

The recognition highlights Solmon’s achievements as she continues to compete at a high level for Hampton University. Her success contributes to Hampton’s track and field program’s standing within their conference.

Looking ahead, Hampton will send participants to three upcoming meets: the Florida Relays, Texas Relays, and Norfolk State Invitational.

The team’s participation in these events offers further opportunities for athletes like Solmon to showcase their skills and aim for additional honors.
