Rivers Casino Portsmouth and Rush Street Gaming have announced plans to commence construction on The Landing Hotel Portsmouth this summer. This development was first revealed by Mayor Shannon Glover during the annual Portsmouth State of the City meeting, highlighting the city’s economic progress. “Portsmouth is on the move – and we’re winning,” stated Mayor Glover, emphasizing the hotel’s significance as a symbol of Rivers Casino’s positive impact on the city.

The hotel project represents a $65 million privately funded investment, anticipated to create approximately 200 temporary construction jobs and 60 permanent positions at Rivers Casino Portsmouth. It is expected to enhance local commerce through increased hospitality tax revenue and support for gaming, dining, conference, and event activities in the area.

Tim Drehkoff, CEO of Rush Street Gaming and Rivers Casino Portsmouth, expressed enthusiasm about advancing with the project: “A hotel was always part of the casino’s masterplan, and we’re excited to be moving forward as expected.” The Landing Hotel will be Rush Street’s fourth casino hotel tailored for the Hampton Roads market.

The eight-story hotel will feature 106 guest rooms, including 32 suites with two ‘super suites’ offering both indoor and outdoor spaces. A Lobby Bar near reception will provide additional amenities such as private executive board rooms. Guests will enjoy direct access to The Event Center at Rivers Casino via a covered corridor.

KOO Architecture & Interiors of Chicago has been appointed as the architect for this project. KOO is recognized as an award-winning firm with certifications including Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE).

Roy Corby, general manager of Rivers Casino Portsmouth, highlighted that “having a hotel fulfills the promise of an integrated destination-style casino.” The Landing Hotel aims to attract weekend visitors, wedding parties, business travelers, concertgoers, and sports fans.

Scheduled to open in early 2027, The Landing Hotel Portsmouth will operate independently under Rivers Casino and Rush Street Gaming management. It will maintain a non-smoking policy with age restrictions for accessing certain areas. Further details can be found at their website.
