The City of Hampton will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday morning for the Shoreline Operations Station (SOS) at Buckroe Beach. The event, scheduled for 9:30 a.m., will celebrate the completion of the permanent SOS structure, which began operating as a pilot program during the 2025 beach season. The initiative was led by the Hampton Police Division in partnership with the Hopeful Hampton collaborative.
The SOS has been active since Memorial Day and was developed to provide a safer and more enjoyable experience for both residents and visitors at Buckroe Beach. According to city officials, “The satellite station, developed to ensure a safe and enjoyable beach experience for all residents and guests, has been operational since Memorial Day. The ribbon cutting, scheduled for 9:30 a.m., marks the completion of the permanent SOS structure. Residents are welcome to attend.”
Located between the playground and main performing stage at Buckroe Beach, the post offers a fixed site where beachgoers can interact with police officers, seek minor first aid or hydration, and report any concerns. Officials note that “the post provides a clear, consistent location for beachgoers to interact with officers, seek minor first aid or hydration, and report any issues or concerns.”
Additionally, authorities say that “the Shoreline Operations Station also serves as a deterrent to anyone who may wish to disrupt public safety.” With summer now over, hours of operation will shift; moving forward, the station will be open on weekends from 4 p.m. until sunset.
