Portsmouth to hold annual senior sports days to celebrate active aging

The Portsmouth Department of Parks and Recreation is set to conduct its 35th annual Senior Sports Days starting on Monday, May 5. Scheduled daily events will continue through Thursday, May 8, targeting individuals aged 50 and above. Participants will engage in various sports and competitions to challenge their mental and physical skills. The contests are designed to award gold, silver, and bronze medals in each age category.

Portsmouth’s Senior Sports Days coincide with Older Americans Month in May, adopting the 2025 theme “Flip the Script on Aging.” The event is organized by the Portsmouth Senior Station in collaboration with the Portsmouth Task Force on Aging, aiming to promote active living among all ages. The event will feature Bobby Dandridge as the keynote speaker. Center Well is the primary sponsor.

– Track & Field at Churchland High School (8:00 am)
– Table Tennis at Neighborhood Facility (9 am)
– Billiards at Bowlero Western Branch (2 pm)

– Tuesday, May 6:
– Senior Information Day at Sportsplex (9 am)
– Opening Ceremony at Sportsplex (11 am)
– Softball Hit and Throw at Sportsplex (1:30 pm)
– Corn Hole at Sportsplex (1:30 pm)

– Wednesday, May 7:
– Dominoes at Sportsplex (9 am)
– Spades, Pickle Ball, Archery at Sportsplex (10 am)
– Checkers, Frisbee Throw at Sportsplex (1:30 pm)

– Thursday, May 8:
– Bocce Ball at Sportsplex (8:30 am)
– Horseshoes, Beanbag Toss at Sportsplex (9:30 am)
– Basketball Throw at Sportsplex (10 am)
– Awards Ceremony at Sportsplex (1:30 pm)
