The City of Poquoson has announced changes to its curbside recycling program. Starting December 1, 2025, the city will begin a multi-year contract with Republic Services through the Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority (VPPSA). The current emergency contract with TFC will end in November.
The last blue recycling pickup under TFC is scheduled for Friday, November 21, and the last red recycling pickup will be on Saturday, November 29. Republic Services will continue using the existing recycling schedule found on the city’s solid waste calendar. Officials state there will be no interruptions in service during this transition.
New blue 95-gallon recycling carts from Republic Services are set to be delivered to homes participating in the city’s solid waste program between Saturday, November 29 and Thursday, December 4. Residents are advised to use these new carts immediately after their final November pickup date. Any recyclables collected in the old brown lid TFC carts should be transferred into the new blue carts.
The city is coordinating with TFC regarding removal of the old brown lid carts. “The carts will either be collected by TFC on your last November recycling day, or they could be collected at a later date by a contractor hired by the City.” Residents are asked not to dispose of these brown lid carts and to leave them accessible for collection.
For further questions or concerns about these changes, residents can contact the Public Works Department at 757-868-3598.
