Newport News Public Schools (NNPS) has announced that sports fans can now subscribe to the NFHS Network to livestream football and field hockey games at Todd Stadium. The initiative will expand to include additional venues and events for the upcoming winter season.
According to a press release by NNPS, subscriptions allow viewers to access games from home or on mobile devices and computers from any location. Monthly subscriptions are priced at $13.99, while annual subscriptions are available for $79.99, averaging $6.67 per month.
“The ability to watch a livestream of our home football and field hockey games from Todd Stadium is available to our community now,” said Lee Martin, NNPS Director of Student Athletics. Martin also mentioned that cameras would be installed in all high school gymnasiums over the next several weeks, allowing for streaming from the gyms starting with basketball season.
The NNPS Athletic Program aims to help students develop the physical and mental abilities needed to compete at advanced levels. It offers opportunities for skill refinement on practice fields and competitive play. Beyond physical development, the program emphasizes teamwork, loyalty, dedication, and respect, encouraging athletes to pursue excellence while supporting their teammates.
According to NNPS, Newport News Public Schools has partnered with Riverside Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Specialists to provide comprehensive sports medicine care. This includes injury management, athletic trainer support, and medical oversight. The collaboration aims to enhance athlete safety, improve performance, and ensure access to professional sports medicine expertise throughout the school division.
NNPS serves approximately 26,000 students across 40 schools, including early childhood centers, elementary, middle, high schools, and combination schools. Over 1,500 students speak a language other than English. The district employs roughly 3,900 teachers, administrators, and support staff with a focus on preparing all students to graduate college-, career-, and citizen-ready. NNPS provides early learning programs, advanced science labs, and educational technology resources for student and teacher success. The district is governed by a seven-member elected School Board with Dr. Michele Mitchell serving as superintendent. Board meetings are public with structured opportunities for citizen input.
