The City of Newport News has announced a series of public workshops as part of its Plan Together: Newport News initiative, aiming to update the city’s Comprehensive Plan. This long-term policy document plays a crucial role in guiding decisions regarding land use, transportation, housing, public spaces, economic development, and infrastructure.

The workshops are designed to be interactive sessions where community members can have a direct impact on the future development of Newport News. “These workshops aren’t presentations—they’re working sessions,” stated Alan K. Archer, City Manager. “We’re inviting residents to sit down with city staff, share what matters in their neighborhoods, and help shape our shared vision for the future.”

Following an initial workshop held on June 12, additional sessions are planned for June 17 at Brittingham-Midtown Community Center and June 24 at Denbigh Community Center. Each date will feature two sessions from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with dinner provided during the evening meetings.

Participants will engage in activities such as marking areas of the city that need investment or attention, reacting to draft city goals and priorities, and conversing with staff and neighbors about future planning efforts.
