On June 12, 2025, Lee Rondell Richardson was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Alfred Johnson. The verdict came after a three-day jury trial. The case was investigated by the James City County Police Department with support from the Williamsburg/James City County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

The incident occurred on September 13, 2022, when officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim on Chickahominy Road. Upon arrival, they found Alfred Johnson deceased at the scene. Detectives quickly identified Richardson as a suspect.

By September 22, 2022, authorities had located Richardson in Newport News through coordinated efforts with local police and the U.S. Marshals Service. He was arrested and charged following an interview with detectives.

The trial began on June 10, 2025, leading to Richardson’s conviction for first-degree murder and use of a firearm in committing a felony. He is currently held at Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail pending sentencing scheduled for September 15, 2025.

The James City County Police Department acknowledged the contributions of all involved parties in securing this conviction and expressed hope that it brings justice to Mr. Johnson’s family.
