On June 12, 2025, Lee Rondell Richardson was convicted of first-degree murder in the September 2022 killing of Alfred Johnson. The conviction followed a three-day jury trial and resulted from an investigation by the James City County Police Department, in coordination with the Williamsburg/James City County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

The incident occurred on September 13, 2022, when officers responded to a report of a male with a gunshot wound on Chickahominy Road. Alfred Johnson, aged 38, was found deceased at the scene. The Criminal Investigations Unit quickly identified leads, developing Richardson as the primary suspect within days.

By September 22, 2022, authorities had located Richardson in Newport News. A coordinated surveillance effort involving the Newport News Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service led to his arrest. After being taken into custody and interviewed by detectives, Richardson was charged.

The case proceeded to trial on June 10, 2025. On June 12, Richardson was found guilty of first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He remains incarcerated at Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail with sentencing scheduled for September 15, 2025.

The James City County Police Department commended all involved parties for their efforts in achieving this conviction and expressed hope that it brings justice to Johnson’s family and those affected by his loss.
