City facilities and services will be affected by the Juneteenth holiday on Thursday, June 19, 2023. Several city offices and departments will close in observance of the holiday.

City offices will not operate on June 19. Garbage collection services, including recycling, refuse, bulk trash, and yard waste collection, will not occur on that day but will instead take place on Wednesday, June 18. Street sweeping scheduled for Thursday will be postponed to Friday, June 20.

The Yard Waste Site will also be closed on June 19. However, the landfill remains open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Libraries across the city will not open their doors on this date. The Treasurer’s Office and Commissioner of the Revenue are among other city services that will observe closure alongside DMV Select and Charles H. Taylor Visual Art Center.

Courts and Human Services departments are included in those observing the holiday closure. The Peninsula Health District and its clinics will also remain closed.

Public golf courses offer an exception as they continue operations as usual on June 19. Similarly, the Hampton History Museum galleries welcome visitors while its office stays closed for the day.

Other attractions such as the Carousel and James T. Wilson Fishing Pier maintain regular hours of operation during Juneteenth.
