James City County is actively seeking potential buyers for the James City County Marina, a property it acquired in 2006. The marina is situated on Powhatan Creek within the Jamestown District. Over the years, the county has invested significantly in enhancing the marina’s facilities and surroundings.

The investments have included welcoming Billsburg Brewery as a tenant, which has become a local attraction. Additionally, aging docks were replaced with modern ones equipped with upgraded fueling and pump-out stations. The shoreline areas have been environmentally enhanced, and a comprehensive Master Plan was developed to outline future opportunities for expansion, including additional boat slips, marine services, and a waterfront restaurant.

These improvements aim to set the stage for private sector investment to further develop the marina into a prominent waterfront destination. The county’s objective is to find a qualified buyer who will continue investing in the property’s infrastructure while respecting its historical significance.

Assistant County Administrator Jason Purse stated: “Given the state of the Marina when we purchased the property, it was understandable that there were few commercial operators looking to maintain the property at that time. With the investments the County has made over the years, we view this amenity as a wonderful feature in our community, and potentially one that may be best served for future development by a private organization.” He added that any potential sale would require approval from the Board of Supervisors.

To facilitate this process, James City County has engaged CarverCo LLC—a Richmond-based commercial real estate consulting and brokerage firm—to manage marketing and sales efforts. Interested parties can obtain more information by calling 804-307-2881.
