James City County has started the process of updating its 2026 Parks & Recreation Master Plan. The County has hired BerryDunn, a consulting firm that focuses on parks, recreation, and open space planning, to assist with this effort.
The updated master plan is intended to serve as a guide for the future development of parks and recreation in the county. It will help identify priorities for improvements to facilities, services, amenities, and programming. The goal is to ensure that recreational opportunities are accessible and of high quality for all residents.
Community members are encouraged to provide input through several channels. They can use the Social Pinpoint website to take a short survey and access interactive features such as a map, a budget tool, and an idea wall.
Residents can also attend one of three community meetings scheduled in November at different locations: James River Elementary School on November 6, James City County Recreation Center on November 13, and James City County Library on November 19. All meetings will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
In addition, a survey will be mailed to all residents by the end of October 2025. This survey is designed to collect detailed feedback about current offerings and future needs. Residents are asked to follow the instructions provided in the mailer to complete it.
Another way to participate is by visiting the “listening station” at the James City County Recreation Center during operating hours until November 15, where comment cards are available.
To stay updated on the plan’s progress, residents are invited to visit the county’s website or provide their email or mailing address to receive updates.
“Have a Say How You Play and help us create recreation for all!” said a representative from James City County Parks & Recreation.
