Renovations at the James City County Recreation Center pool are ongoing, with the reopening now scheduled for February 2, 2026. The project addresses needed updates to the facility, which is over four decades old. The timeline was extended after workers found unexpected structural issues and faced weather-related delays.

Upgrades include a resurfaced pool deck, new central drainage system, improved interior tiling and lighting, a raised ceiling, poolside showers, an updated ADA-accessible ramp and railing, enhancements to the HVAC system, and additional poolside offices and storage space.

The county has arranged for lap swimmers to use other local aquatic facilities during the closure. Pool availability at these locations may change; current information can be found on the Aquatics webpage or by contacting the center directly.

“We appreciate your patience throughout this process and are excited to share these renovations with the community! Please note that this schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather. If the opening date is delayed, updates will be emailed to Rec Center members and posted on the JCCRC Aquatics webpage and social media channels (Facebook and Instagram). Patrons may also call 757-259-4200 for the latest updates,” according to a statement from James City County officials.

For more information about schedules or alternative swimming options during renovations, residents are encouraged to check online resources or contact staff by phone.
