Renovations at the James City County Recreation Center pool are ongoing, with significant updates planned for the 40-year-old facility at 5301 Longhill Rd. The project has encountered unexpected structural issues, resulting in a delay beyond the original reopening date. The contractor is working extended hours and weekends to address these challenges and finalize an updated timeline.

Once a new reopening date is set, it will be communicated to Recreation Center members via email and shared on the JCCRC Aquatics webpage as well as social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. Patrons seeking updates can also call 757-259-4200.

The renovation includes resurfacing the pool deck, installing a new central drainage system, updating the interior pool bottom and tiling, raising the pool ceiling, enhancing interior lighting, adding poolside showers, updating ADA accessible ramp and railing, improving the HVAC system, and creating two poolside offices with storage space.

However, unexpected structural issues discovered during renovations have extended the timeline, pushing the reopening beyond the original advertised date. The contractor is finalizing an updated timeline and is working extended days and weekends to complete the project. Once the new reopening date is confirmed, it will be emailed to Rec Center members and posted on the JCCRC Aquatics webpage and social media channels (Facebook and Instagram).
