James City County Police seek public help in locating shooting suspect

On August 16, 2025, at around 12:20 a.m., the James City County Police Department responded to a report of a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the 4900 block of Grand Strand Drive. The victim was found by law enforcement and fire personnel, who provided medical assistance before transporting him to VCU Medical Center.

Following an investigation, detectives identified Devante Gregory Lewis as a suspect. On the same day, James City County Police charged Lewis with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Authorities are seeking public assistance in locating Lewis. The police department has not released further details about the incident or the current condition of the victim.
