At around 6:06 a.m. on November 18, James City County Police and Fire personnel responded to a collision involving a bicyclist and a vehicle at the intersection of Monticello Avenue and Casey Boulevard. Emergency responders provided medical assistance at the scene, after which the injured bicyclist was airlifted by Life Evac to the Medical Center of Virginia in Richmond. The bicyclist is currently in critical condition.
According to initial findings from the James City County Police Department Crash Team, the incident involved a 62-year-old man from James City County who was riding an E-Bike on Ironbound Road. He reportedly entered the intersection against a red traffic signal and was struck by a 2008 GMC Envoy driven by a 72-year-old York County resident. The driver had the right-of-way with a green light.
After the collision, the driver stopped immediately and, along with several witnesses, contacted Peninsula Regional Emergency Communications. Authorities temporarily diverted westbound traffic on Monticello Avenue to allow for emergency response and investigation.
Both vehicles involved—the GMC Envoy and the E-Bike—were taken to the James City County Law Enforcement Center for further examination as part of standard procedure. A Williamsburg-James City County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney arrived at the scene following a request from investigators.
At this time, no charges have been filed as authorities continue their investigation.
