The James City County Police Department announced on April 9 that it is accepting registrations for two upcoming Firearm Safety Classes scheduled for Thursday, April 16 and Thursday, April 30, both from 6 to 9 p.m. The classes will take place at the Law Enforcement Center located at 4600 Opportunity Way.
These free, one-session courses are open to the public and focus on essential topics such as basic firearm operation, safe handling and storage practices, and Virginia laws related to carrying a concealed handgun. Completion of either class fulfills the training requirement needed to obtain a Virginia concealed carry permit.
Participants who attend will receive a certificate of attendance along with a complimentary gun lock and additional firearm safety materials. The department noted that these sessions are classroom-based only and do not include hands-on training. Attendees are asked not to bring personal firearms; all firearms should be left securely at home.
Space in each class is limited, so advance registration is required. Interested individuals can register online through the provided link.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to promote responsible gun ownership and enhance community safety through education.
