The James City County Police Department will host a Community Open House at the Law Enforcement Center, 4600 Opportunity Way, on May 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to an April 15 announcement. The event is designed to give residents a chance to experience the work of local law enforcement through interactive demonstrations and activities.
The open house aims to bring neighbors and officers together by offering behind-the-scenes access and opportunities for engagement. Families attending can explore patrol vehicles, observe specialized units in action, and meet the officers who serve their community.
Visitors will be able to take guided tours of police headquarters, see daily operations up close, and interact with investigative and technology teams demonstrating forensic techniques, drone operations, and virtual reality training tools. Specialized units such as K9 teams, SWAT members with breaching equipment, tactical drone operators, dive team members with marine patrol gear, traffic unit motorcycles, and animal control vehicles will also provide demonstrations throughout the day.
In addition to these displays, family-friendly activities like Junior Officer stations and child ID kits with fingerprinting will be available. Residents can learn about safety programs including Project Lifesaver, Community Action Teams, Neighborhood Watch initiatives, and the county’s security camera registration program.
According to the department’s announcement: “The Community Open House is an invitation for residents to connect with the officers who protect and serve them. Through transparency, education, and interactive experiences, the department aims to strengthen trust and build lasting community relationships.”
