James City County Police Department offers free firearm safety class on November 18

The James City County Police Department will hold a free Firearm Safety Class on November 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Center, located at 4600 Opportunity Way. The course is open to all members of the public and will be conducted in a classroom setting.

According to the department, the session will address basic firearm operation, safety procedures, proper handling and storage of firearms, as well as Virginia laws concerning concealed handgun permits. Those who complete the class will meet the training requirement necessary for obtaining a Virginia concealed carry permit.

Participants will receive a certificate of attendance, a complimentary gun lock, and additional firearm safety materials. The police department notes that this class does not include hands-on training and asks attendees not to bring personal firearms to the event.
