Master Police Officer Daniel L. Jackson of the James City County Police Department has been honored with the 2025 Carter Hill Award for Lifetime Achievement by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Virginia. This award is among the organization’s most significant recognitions and highlights MPO Jackson’s career-long commitment to enforcing laws against impaired driving and promoting public safety.
During his more than twenty years in law enforcement, MPO Jackson has made 887 arrests related to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, maintaining a conviction rate near 98 percent. He contributed to updating department procedures on drug-impaired driving cases, which has led to stronger legal outcomes and improved road safety.
Since 2012, MPO Jackson has provided education on the risks of impaired driving to over 4,400 high school students. He is certified as an instructor by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), leads training at the Hampton Roads Criminal Justice Training Academy, and serves as a mentor for new officers.
In addition to his policing work, MPO Jackson is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and participates in several specialized teams within the department, including crisis negotiations, fatal crash response, highway safety initiatives, and the Honor Guard. He also established an Honor Wall within the department to recognize both military and police service members.
Throughout his career, MPO Jackson has received multiple awards such as the Distinguished Service Award, four Life Saving Awards, five Meritorious Service Awards, the Hampton Roads Top Cop Award, and was named Officer of the Year for 2024 by his department.
Chief of Police Mark Jamison commented on this recognition: “MPO Jackson exemplifies the highest standards of law enforcement. His dedication to saving lives, mentoring others, and serving with integrity makes him truly deserving of this honor.”
The Carter Hill Award for Lifetime Achievement was presented during MADD Virginia’s annual Law Enforcement Awards Ceremony.
