The James City County Office of Housing announced on May 7 that it will begin offering monthly Office Hours/Ask an Expert sessions, starting Wednesday, May 20, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Human Services Center located at 5249 Olde Towne Road in Williamsburg.

These sessions are intended to provide residents with access to HUD-certified housing counselors for one-on-one discussions about budgeting, credit counseling, renting, purchasing homes, and homelessness prevention. The county said that home inspectors, rehabilitation specialists, lenders and real estate agents will also be available during these events in what is described as a safe and no-pressure environment.

Each session will be followed by a Financial Empowerment Group workshop lasting between 30 and 45 minutes. Workshop topics will include subjects such as budgeting strategies and ways to avoid scams. The first workshop on May 20 is titled “My Money Values” and aims to help attendees understand four different life values that influence everyday financial decisions.

Residents interested in participating are asked to preregister at least 24 hours before each session by calling the Housing Office at (757) 259-5340.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the James City County Office of Housing to provide resources for community members seeking guidance on financial matters related to housing.
