On December 12, the James City County Fire Department responded to a residential fire in the Powhatan Secondary neighborhood. The incident occurred in the 200 block of Charter House Lane after neighbors reported seeing a fire on the garage side of a home and confirmed that the resident had exited safely.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames in the attached garage, with fire spreading into the room above it. Crews quickly extinguished the main part of the fire in the garage and checked for further spread into other parts of the house. The fire was brought under control by 4:55 p.m.
The garage sustained significant damage from both fire and smoke, while there was additional damage to a finished room above it. The rest of the house experienced some smoke and water damage.
One adult resident was transported to VCU Medical Center in Richmond. No injuries were reported among firefighters.
Williamsburg Fire Department assisted at the scene. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the James City County Fire Marshal’s Office.
