The Hampton University women’s indoor track and field team finished second at the CAA Championships, which took place at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston on Sunday. Hampton scored 121.5 points, placing behind Elon University, which led with 135 points. N.C. A&T came in third with 93 points, narrowly surpassing Towson’s 92 points.
Brianna Charles was named Track Athlete of the Meet after securing first place in both the 60 meters (7.38) and the 200 meters (23.47), achieving personal bests in each event. She also contributed to Hampton’s third-place finish in the 4×400 relay, which clocked a time of 3:49.29.
Hampton set a meet record in the 4×800 relay as Shari Brown, Avah Savage, Mekayla Wilson, and Kylee King completed the race in 8:55.50.
In other events, Hampton collected significant points across multiple disciplines:
– In the 200 meters, Charles’s win was followed by Nyla Felton in fourth place (24.14) and Morgan Pruitt in fifth (24.22), giving Hampton a total of 19 points.
– The team earned 16 points in the 400 meters with Felton finishing second (55.14), Arriah Gilmer fourth (55.63), Olayinka Yetunde seventh (56.20), and Laila Carpenter eighth (56.36).
– In the 800 meters, King finished fourth (2:09.74), Nia Warren fifth (2:09.77), Wilson sixth (2:10.32), and Savage seventh (2:10.42).
– Danielle James won a CAA title in long jump with a mark of 6.06m; Caylie Jefferson placed sixth at 5.82m.
– Rochele Solmon added another individual title for Hampton by winning shot put with a throw of 15.10m.
– James also took second place in triple jump with a leap of 12.26m; Arden Gray was eighth at 11.75m.
– Saniyah Evans finished sixth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.72 seconds.
– Damali Williams secured sixth place in weight throw with a toss of 17.37m.
– DeAuna Louis placed eighth overall in pentathlon with a total score of 3,293 points.
