Hampton University’s women’s basketball team lost to Monmouth 64-57 on Sunday after a difficult second quarter in which the Pirates were outscored 22-5. The game began evenly, with both teams exchanging points until Alexis Andrews of Monmouth hit a three-pointer that put her team ahead 9-6. Hampton responded with a 7-0 run, including an Olivia Smith three-pointer, taking a 13-9 lead. Aaryn Battle extended Hampton’s lead to 15-11 before Andrews narrowed the gap at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Monmouth forced seven turnovers and limited Hampton to just two field goals from thirteen attempts. The Hawks opened the period with a 10-0 run. However, Hampton fought back with an 18-5 run capped by Akilah Shelton’s putback, closing the gap to eight points late in the third. Monmouth maintained control into the final minutes, leading by as much as 13 points after GiGi Gamble’s jumper. Hampton made one last effort, narrowing the deficit to four after Le’Asia Foreman’s reverse layup with half a minute remaining. However, Monmouth sealed their win at the free throw line with shots from Dibula and Alexis Davis.
