Hampton will hold a public event on August 31 at Mill Point Park to celebrate receiving its fifth All-America City award. The event is free and expands the already scheduled Groovin’ by the Bay concert, running from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and will feature music by The Gentlemen and Their Lady. The celebration will include presentations, giveaways, extra vendors, and family activities.

The city was named an All-America City on June 30 by the National Civic League, which has recognized civic engagement across U.S. communities for 76 years. This year’s award highlighted community efforts in environmental sustainability and resilience.

Mayor Jimmy Gray and City Manager Mary Bunting led a group representing Hampton before judges in Denver, with participants aged from 13 to 85.

“Hampton was one of 10 municipalities to earn the title of All-America City from the National Civic League. The civic league has been sponsoring the award for 76 years, spotlighting civic engagement and ‘the resilience that communities across the country show when people come together to respond to local challenges.’ This year’s entries and judging were focused on the premise of ‘the pivotal role that community engagement plays in advancing environmental sustainability and resilience.’”

This marks Hampton’s fifth time receiving this recognition; previous awards came in 1972, 2002, 2014, and 2023.
