The Hampton Planning Commission is set to meet Thursday afternoon to discuss a proposed ordinance concerning smoke and vape shops in the city. The meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the chambers on the eighth floor of City Hall, located at 22 Lincoln St. Residents can watch the proceedings live on Cox channel 47, Verizon channel 22, or stream them online at hampton.gov/livetv.
A key item on the agenda is a public hearing regarding an amendment to current zoning regulations for smoke and vape shops. Currently, these businesses are classified under “general retail use” within eligible commercial zoning districts. The proposed change would establish a separate definition for smoke and vape shops.
If approved by the City Council following a recommendation from the Planning Commission, new smoke and vape shops would be restricted to the “general commercial C-3” district. Additional standards would apply, and such businesses would require an approved use permit.
The commission will also receive a report from Community Development’s youth planner during this session.
This meeting marks the final Planning Commission gathering of 2025.
