The Hampton Main Library has been closed since August 2025 due to mold mitigation efforts. City staff are carrying out repairs to address the issue and ensure the safety of employees, visitors, and library materials.

Officials have stated that they expect the closure to be temporary. However, if the situation requires a longer closure, plans will be considered for an alternative temporary location to minimize disruption of Main Library services.

During this period, patrons are asked to return borrowed books and other materials to one of the three other branches: Willow Oaks at 227 Fox Hill Road, Phoebus at 1 S. Mallory St., or Northampton at 936 Big Bethel Road. Returns can be made during operating hours or after hours using drop boxes at these locations. Online resources and the library catalog remain accessible.

A city spokesperson said, “The library is making repairs to ensure that employees, patrons and materials are protected. The city expects the closure to be short term, but if a longer closure becomes necessary, we will explore plans for an alternative temporary location to ensure Main Library services are not disrupted for long.”

The city thanked residents for their understanding as work continues toward reopening the facility safely.
