Hampton City Council has approved a significant redevelopment project and celebrated various civic milestones during its recent legislative session. On July 9, 2025, the council moved forward with plans to transform the former Wood’s Orchard site into a multifamily housing community.

The council approved three proposals for this initiative. Community Plan Amendment No. 25-0102 was passed, changing the land use designation from Low-Density Residential to High-Density Residential. Rezoning Application No. 25-0148 rezoned 10.18 acres at East Mercury Boulevard and Woodland Road to Multifamily Residential (MD-4) with conditions. Use Permit No. 25-0149 authorized the construction of approximately 316 apartment units along with associated amenities.

These approvals were based on recommendations from the Planning Commission and a staff analysis that showed alignment with Hampton’s housing and economic goals. The project will include sustainability measures and preserve large trees in the area.

In addition to these developments, the council issued proclamations honoring Colonel Matthew R. Altman of the USAF and recognized Hampton’s storytelling community. A proclamation was read designating July 26, 2025, as Americans with Disabilities Act 35th Anniversary Day, marking progress toward equity for all over the past 35 years.

Mayor Jimmy Gray also read a special proclamation celebrating Hampton’s 415th birthday. Furthermore, the Mayor and Council formally acknowledged Hampton’s delegation that traveled to Denver and secured the city’s fifth All-America City Award.

The meeting underscored both civic achievements and future development efforts as Hampton continues its growth trajectory.
