The Go Sk8 Daze event is set to return to Portsmouth, Virginia, for its fifth annual celebration. Scheduled for June 19 and June 21 at Parkside Skate Park in Cradock, the event is organized by Hard Times Skate Shop in collaboration with Portsmouth Parks & Recreation. The two-day festival combines skateboarding activities with art, food, and music to honor Juneteenth and the local youth culture.

This year’s featured artist is Freakico Rico, known for integrating bold street expression with cultural narratives into his work.

The event kicks off on June 19 with the “Juneteenth Jam,” featuring DJ Greyl alongside skate contests, money-for-tricks events, games, inflatables, and giveaways. On June 21, attendees can participate in the “Go Sk8 Daze Kickback,” which includes free beginner skate lessons, yoga sessions led by @danadivine2222, open skating opportunities, a park cleanup effort, raffles, and a community cookout.

Portsmouth Parks and Recreation supports this event along with several sponsors such as Deadbroke Skateboards and Michelle Décor and Planning. Local businesses like Smoken Grease food truck will offer a variety of culinary options during the festival.

Toney Herndon of Hard Times Skate Shop commented on the evolution of the event: “This event started as a local skate contest and has grown into something deeply rooted in culture and community. We’re building something lasting for Portsmouth’s youth.”

Event Details:
– Location: Parkside Skate Park (4117 George Washington Hwy), Portsmouth
– Dates: June 19 & 21
