The National Weather Service office in Wakefield has issued an extreme heat warning for the entire region, effective through 8 p.m. Wednesday. The forecast predicts heat index values to exceed 110 degrees.

Residents are advised to remain indoors as much as possible and ensure they stay hydrated when outdoors. Additionally, it is crucial not to leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

For those seeking relief from the midday heat, public libraries and city community or neighborhood centers will be open during their regular operating hours. Emergency Management will maintain vigilance over the conditions.
