The National Weather Service office in Wakefield has extended the extreme heat advisory through Thursday evening. Heat index values are expected to approach 110 degrees.

Initially, the advisory was set to end at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, but it now warns of extreme heat from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Residents are advised to stay indoors as much as possible and remain hydrated when outdoors. It is important not to leave children or pets in unattended vehicles.

For those seeking relief from the midday heat, public libraries and city community or neighborhood centers will be open during their regular hours. Emergency Management will continue monitoring conditions.
