At about 1:38 p.m. on November 19, James City County Police and Fire responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in the 4600 block of Monticello Avenue, near Monticello Marketplace. When officers arrived, they found an elderly male resident of James City County who had been hit by a cement truck while crossing the street with a walker. The man was unresponsive at the scene and was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The James City County Police Crash Team is investigating the incident. A Williamsburg-James City County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney also went to the scene, which police say is standard procedure when the Crash Team is involved.

Authorities have not filed charges against either the cement truck driver, who is also a resident of James City County, or the pedestrian. According to initial findings, police believe that the pedestrian was unlawfully crossing the road at the time of the collision.
