Coastal flood advisories issued for Poquoson with storm parking announced

A Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for the area from 2 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2025, until 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Following this advisory, a Coastal Flood Watch will be in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday through 2 a.m. Wednesday, September 17.

During the advisory period, low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways could experience up to one foot of water above ground level. The watch period may bring between one and two feet of inundation in similar areas.

High tide at Messick is forecasted for 4:29 p.m. on Monday and at both 4:59 a.m. and 5:47 p.m. on Tuesday.

Southeast Virginia is also forecasted to receive between one and over three inches of rain from Monday afternoon through Wednesday night.

Storm parking will be available starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday at South Lawson Park (hard surface only) and City Hall; parking is not permitted at the new Public Safety Building during this time. These designated storm parking areas will remain available until noon on Wednesday.
