The Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority (VPPSA) has ended its recycling contract with Tidewater Fibre Corporation (TFC), effective September 30, citing issues with the company’s performance. The City of Poquoson expects TFC to follow the regular recycling pickup schedule on Friday, September 26. If TFC does not provide service as expected, the city will offer a temporary recycling drop-off site at the Public Works Compound located at 12 Municipal Drive.

This alternative drop-off location will be available to residents on Fridays and Saturdays for two consecutive weeks: September 26 and 27, and October 3 and 4. Operating hours are from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. The city is working toward a long-term solution for curbside recycling services.

Residents who currently receive back door pickup will continue to have their recyclables collected at home by Public Works staff.

Regular garbage collection schedules remain unchanged for all citizens.

Questions can be directed to the Public Works Department at 757-868-3598 or the City Manager’s Office at 757-868-3000. Additional information and updates are available on the city’s official website: www.poquoson-va.gov/214/recycling.
