The City of Hampton announced changes to its operating schedule due to severe weather and freezing temperatures. All city facilities, including offices, libraries, and community centers, will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. The delayed opening is intended to ensure the safety of residents and staff as temperatures are expected to be below freezing during the morning commute.

Hampton City Schools will conduct remote learning for all students on Tuesday, with staff also working remotely. All school-related afternoon and evening activities have been canceled.

On Monday, the city closed its facilities at 3 p.m., citing hazardous weather conditions in the region. This early closure included libraries and all community and neighborhood centers. The Bethel Landfill also closed at 3 p.m., which led to an early end for bulk pickup operations since trucks could not dispose of collected materials after that time.

Certain areas were not serviced for bulk collection due to these changes:
– Big Bethel Road & Orcutt Avenue: Farmington to Big Bethel
– Todds Lane & Mercury Boulevard: Bakers Farm to Executive

Automated trash collection will continue because the Steam Plant remains operational. However, solid waste collections scheduled for Tuesday may experience delays if black ice affects roadways. Residents are asked to place their trash and recycling containers curbside as usual; pickups will occur as conditions allow throughout the day.

City schools also closed two hours early on Monday in response to the weather.

The city’s storm response team plans to monitor road conditions overnight before making further decisions about Tuesday’s operations. Residents are encouraged to follow official social media channels for updates or call the Customer Call Center at 757-727-8311 for more information.
