The City of Hampton announced it will close all city facilities at 3 p.m. today due to severe winter weather in the region. The decision, made by the city manager’s office, affects libraries as well as community and neighborhood centers.
Bethel Landfill will also close at 3 p.m., leading to an early end for bulk pickup operations since trucks will not be able to dispose of collected materials after that time. Some areas missed during collections include Big Bethel Road & Orcutt Avenue from Farmington to Big Bethel, and Todds Lane & Mercury Boulevard from Bakers Farm to Executive.
Automated trash collection is set to continue because the Steam Plant remains open. However, solid waste collections scheduled for Tuesday may be delayed if black ice develops on roadways. Residents are asked to place their trash and recycling containers curbside for Tuesday collection, with pickups occurring as conditions allow.
City schools closed two hours early today in response to the weather. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing during Tuesday morning’s commute. The city’s storm response team plans to assess road conditions this evening before determining Tuesday’s operational schedule.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the city’s social media channels for updates or contact the Customer Call Center at 757-727-8311 for more information.
