City of Hampton announces closures for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Many City of Hampton offices and services will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

City offices, schools, libraries, community and neighborhood centers, the Commissioner of the Revenue and Treasurer’s Office, DMV Select, courts, and Peninsula Health District clinics will all be closed on Monday.

There will be no trash or recycling collection on Monday. These collections are rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 21. Street sweeping planned for Monday will also move to Wednesday, while regular Wednesday sweeping is shifted to Friday, Jan. 23.

The city’s yard waste site will not operate on Monday. However, the landfill remains open.

Both The Hampton and The Woodlands public golf courses will be open on Monday. City parks—including Bluebird Gap Farm and Air Power Park—will also remain open to visitors.

At the Hampton History Museum, galleries are open but administrative offices are closed for the holiday.

The carousel, Hampton Tennis Center and James T. Wilson Fishing Pier remain closed for the season.

Hampton Roads Transit bus services—including paratransit and ride shares—will run according to a Saturday schedule on Monday. The ferry operates as usual for weekdays. Information booths at transit centers will not be staffed; however, customer service is available by phone from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
