The City Council is set to convene on Wednesday for its regular work and legislative sessions, with public hearings planned regarding the future of the former Wood’s Orchards property. The work session will commence at 1 p.m., followed by the legislative session at 6:30 p.m., both taking place in chambers on the eighth floor of City Hall, located at 22 Lincoln St. These sessions are open to the public.
During the legislative session, a public hearing will be held concerning plans for the site on East Mercury Boulevard, where Wood’s Orchards operated as a local business for over 80 years before closing in September 2024. The council is considering an amendment to the Hampton Community Plan that would change the land use designation from low-density residential to high-density residential. This plan has received a recommendation for approval from the Planning Commission.
In addition to discussions about Wood’s Orchards, the afternoon work session will feature a briefing from the Hampton Police Division covering crime data comparisons and division resources, among other topics.
The day’s proceedings will begin with a special closed session at 9 a.m., during which discussions about the performance of the city manager, city attorney, and clerk of council will take place.
Both sessions will be broadcast live on Cox channel 47 and Verizon channel 22 and streamed online at hampton.gov/livetv. Residents interested in attending or viewing full agendas can find more information online.
