The City Council is set to hold its regular work and legislative sessions on Wednesday, with key topics including proposed ordinances related to accessory dwelling units and camping on public grounds.

The day will begin with a walking tour of the Phoebus business district, where council members will meet local business owners. The work session, scheduled for 1 p.m., will feature presentations but no votes. Topics include a briefing on potential zoning ordinance amendments for accessory dwelling units and an update regarding the formation of a focus group that will consider options for an ordinance prohibiting camping and storage on public property.

Later in the afternoon, at 3:30 p.m., the legislative session will address several items. Among them is a public hearing concerning the 2025-29 Consolidated Plan and the 2025 Annual Action Plan. The Consolidated Plan serves as a five-year strategic guide for federal housing and community development grant funding, while the Annual Action Plan outlines objectives specific to the current year.

Council members are also expected to vote on a proposal that would allow more flexibility in determining how long use permits remain valid. If adopted, this measure aims to encourage timely completion of developments while granting the council discretion when necessary.

Both meetings are open to the public. More information about attending or viewing agendas can be found online at hampton.gov/livetv. The sessions will also be broadcast on Cox channel 47 and Verizon channel 22.
