The City Council is set to convene this Wednesday, focusing primarily on the first public hearing regarding the city manager’s suggested budget for Fiscal Year 2025. The meetings will commence with a work session at 1 p.m. followed by a legislative session at 6:30 p.m. Both sessions will take place on the eighth floor of City Hall, 22 Lincoln Street, where the public is encouraged to attend.
During the afternoon session, there will be a briefing on the budget for Hampton City Schools and a discussion on the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2026. This recommended budget is accessible online and can also be found in book form at all branches of the Hampton Public Library.
The evening session is set to host the initial public hearing on the budget recommendations. A follow-up public hearing is scheduled for May 7, prior to the City Council’s final budget vote on May 14. The new fiscal year is slated to start on July 1.
Additionally, the evening session will include hearings on a proposal by the city manager to decrease the real estate tax rate from $1.15 to $1.14 per $100 of assessed value, addressing the increasing property values within the city. Discussions will also cover the city’s Capital Improvement Plan for 2026-2030.
Before the legislative session, a ceremonial session will begin at 6 p.m. Information regarding attendance and full agendas can be found online. All sessions will be broadcasted on the city’s TV channels Cox 47 and Verizon 22, and can be streamed live at hampton.gov/livetv.
