The City Council is set to hold a special session on Wednesday at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, joined by the School Board, Planning Commission, Economic Development Authority, and Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m., focusing on presentations and discussions about urban planning and placemaking.
Following the special session, a closed meeting will take place at 2 p.m. During this time, council members are scheduled to discuss committee appointments and the disposition of publicly held property in the Briarfield area.
The regular afternoon work session will not occur this week. In the evening, a legislative session is planned for 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall chambers on the eighth floor. Before that, at 6 p.m., there will be a ceremonial spotlight recognizing individuals whose expertise contributed to Hampton receiving its fifth All-America City designation but who were not part of the delegation that presented before the National Civic League.
An ordinance amending city code to prohibit camping and storage on public property was originally listed on the agenda for consideration during the legislative session; however, “the City Council now plans to defer that item until a later date.”
A public hearing will also be held as part of the legislative session to review the Community Development Block Grant & Home 2024 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report.
Both morning and evening sessions are open to residents. The evening session will be broadcast via Cox channel 47 and Verizon channel 22, as well as streamed live online at hampton.gov/livetv. The morning session will be recorded for later online posting. More details about attending these meetings can be found through full agendas available from official sources.
