Bayside of Poquoson Health and Rehab earned an overall rating of 2 out of 5 in the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. This falls below Virginia’s average rating for nursing homes, which stood at 3.0.

The facility offered 60 available beds, which was 53 fewer than the Virginia average as of the first quarter of 2026. Staff cared for an average of 53.6 residents throughout the period.

During the first quarter of 2026, Bayside of Poquoson Health and Rehab reported no incidents resulting in fines or penalties.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the older adult population is on the rise nationwide while younger age groups are shrinking. From 2020 to 2024, Americans aged 65 and up grew by 13%, as the under-18 population decreased by 1.7%. The nation’s aging demographic has expanded rapidly since 1920, rising from 4.9 million seniors to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 analysis indicates nearly half of those aged 65 and older—about 28 million—may need long-term services or support, and projects that more than a third may eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
